Below is a collection of some of the most frequently asked questions concerning East Kellogg. If you have additional questions, you can contact the program by using the message fields at the bottom of the page or by emailing eastkellogg@ksdotike.org.

The environmental review process for the project was completed in January 2023.

Phase 1 is fully funded for construction and KDOT’s goal is to begin construction in summer 2025. KDOT has started preparing the Phase 1 corridor for construction, which includes final design and eventually the right-of-way appraisal and acquisition process as well as utility relocation.

Phase 2 was included in the environmental review process so that federal approval could be obtained and the project could move forward for development when funding is available.

Public meeting materials are available on the project website. You can view the display boards and handouts from each meeting below:

The latest map showing the project improvements is shown here. The environmental phase assessed the corridor for impacts, including impact on properties, that an alignment may have. All meeting materials are available on the project website.

KDOT has started the final design process, which needs to be done in order to know the construction and right-of-way limits. The detour routes, traffic flow and phasing during construction will be determined as the design process advances, but the contractor will be required to maintain access to all properties during construction.

If right-of-way needs to be acquired for the project, information on KDOT’s acquisition process can be found online here.

We know that the potential impact of noise is an important issue for residents along this corridor. Here is the link to the latest documents and displays from the Public Hearing in Nov. 2022 with the latest information on the noise analysis.

A Traffic Noise Analysis was conducted for the East Kellogg Expansion Project that modeled predicted traffic noise levels for the entire corridor from east of I‐35/K‐96 to east of Prairie Creek Road. The main lanes as well as frontage roads and cross‐street improvements were evaluated in the model. The Traffic Noise Analysis was included as Appendix F to the EA.

At this stage of the project, the limits and impact are not yet defined. More detailed design work is underway to know the construction and right-of-way limits. If right of way needs to be acquired for the project, information on KDOT’s acquisition process can be found online here.

We are in the early stage of design and more detailed design work needs to be done to know the construction limits. The detour routes, traffic flow and phasing during construction will be determined as the design process advances. Knowing the concerns of the community will help KDOT and their consultants adjust and come up with the best possible plan. It is KDOT’s goal to minimize project impacts and come up with the best overall solution for the community and the traveling public.

The environmental phase assessed the corridor for the impacts that an alignment may have, including floodplains, wetlands, wildlife habitat, etc. At this stage of the project, the limits and impact are not yet defined.

As the project continues into the final design process, options will be evaluated to further minimize potential impacts to adjacent neighborhoods including addressing access along the frontage roads, avoiding (if possible) and minimizing tree removal, and addressing drainage concerns.

The online public meeting display boards and handouts have concepts and illustrations to show the preliminary design. Here is the link to the latest public meeting information.
